The 7th Annual Back to the Chattahoochee River Race & Festival was held Saturday, June 13. Thanks to all our participants, sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers for helping to make this a great event! Each year the race starts at Garrard Landing Park at Holcomb Bridge Road and finishes at Roswell’s Riverside Park—the venue for the FREE festival with live music, kids' activities, environmental exhibits, and more. This event is hosted by UCR, National Park Service, Fulton County, and City of Roswell.
The Race
The Festival
THE RACE - 9 a.m.
The Course: Garrard Landing Park on Holcomb Bridge Road to Riverside Park. Paddlers wanting a competitive race or competing for points in the Georgia Flatwater Canoe/Kayak Series will traverse the 10-mile course, while recreational paddlers will take the 8-mile course. Both include exciting Class I-II rapids. Race fans can cheer on their favorite craft from several locations: Island Ford, Don White Park and Riverside Park. Race Divisions: Open and recreational categories, various age divisions, solo and tandem canoe divisions, as well as kayak and sea kayak divisions. New in 2009 – awards for Best Costume and Best Boat Decoration. See below for information on the Team Challenge.

Registration Includes: Race participation, gift bag, a race T-shirt, a boxed lunch. and a complimentary one-year membership with UCR. Fee does not include equipment rental!
Equipment: Participants must provide their own craft, Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), and paddles.. All racers must pass an equipment inspection the morning of the race. No double bladed paddles allowed in canoe divisions. See boat rental information. Race rules, required gear, schedules and FAQ’s provided in registration confirmation.
Team Challenge
The purpose of the Team Challenge is to create a recreational and competitive event that builds pride, morale and camaraderie among groups such as companies, schools, and clubs. Each team selects a Team Coordinator as the liaison between their group and the UCR Office. Indicate your interest on the registration form.
THE FESTIVAL - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Festival at Riverside Park, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and family-friendly. In 2009, racers and others will enjoyed live music from Michael Tolcher and The Watershed Project - a collection of local musicians including Gareth Asher, Christopher Alan Yates, Amy Gerhartz, Brian Bisky, and Emily Kate Boyd, who regularly donate their time and talent to UCR events. Other highlights of the festival included balloon artists and other family-friendly activities, as well as vendors and an array of environmental exhibits.
Tree Sound Studios provided solar-power for the sound stage.
