Headwaters Partner Groups
UCR works with various groups in the headwaters of our watershed, in particular, the following organizations:
The Lumpkin Coalition is a 100% volunteer non-profit 501c3 charitable organization formed to facilitate projects that benefit North Georgia, Lumpkin County, its residents and visitors. The group supports the preservation of a clean and healthy environment, responsible living, and responsible growth. Saving the Eastern and Carolina Hemlock trees are from the spreading infestation of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), is the primary focus for Lumpkin Coalition.
Rivers Alive is Georgia's annual volunteer waterway cleanup event that targets all waterways in the State including streams, rivers, lakes, beaches, and wetlands. The mission of Rivers Alive is to create awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia's water resources. UCR partners with Rivers Alive on various cleanups in the headwaters and throughout our watershed.
Soque River Watershed Association (SRWA) works to protect and restore the Soque River, its tributaries and watershed. The Soque River is completely contained within Habersham County in beautiful northeast Georgia and is the central geographic feature of the area. No other county in Georgia possess a watershed the size of the Soque from its headwaters to mouth.
